Jackson County Man Sentenced In Drunk Driving Crash Incident

(CARBONDALE, IL) — A Jackson County man was sentenced Monday to four years in prison for a drunk driving crash that killed a man last November as he was riding his bike near the intersection of Old Route 13 and Bigler Road in Carbondale. Twenty-three-year-old Seth Loyd of Carbondale pled guilty to aggravated DUI back in August. Witnesses to the crash told Carbondale Police Loyd was weaving back and forth and eventually struck Matthew Dierker. Loyd admitted to police he had been drinking and was texting when the accident happened on Nov. 14. Dierker was taken to Memorial Hospital of Carbondale with severe injuries. Dierker was airlifted to a St. Louis hospital where he died the next day. Besides prison time, Loyd will have to undergo substance and alcohol abuse treatment.
