(NASHVILLE, IL) — Authorities have identified a man whose body was recovered Tuesday morning from a lake in Washington County as a 34-year-old Radom man. According to a statement from Washington County Coroner Mark Styninger’s office, Juan Carlos Sanchez-Mora was fishing with some friends on the lake when, around midnight, he either jumped or fell out of the boat and into the water. The statement says injuries to Sanchez-Mora’s head and witness statements indicate Sanchez-Mora hit the boat’s propeller when he was in the water. According to Styninger’s statement, the boaters called 9-1-1 at about 1:30 a.m. Tuesday to report a man who was unresponsive at the lake. Upon arrival, rescue workers were told that Sanchez-Mora was in the water and could not be located. Firefighters from Belleville, Fayetteville, Mascoutah, Nashville and Swansea participated in the search. The search effort to find Sanchez-Mora had to be halted due to a heavy downpour of rain, but the search ultimately resumed and, shortly after the sun came up, searchers using sonar located and recovered the body. Styninger’s statement said alcohol is a factor in the incident. According to the Washington County Sheriff’s Department, the victim was riding on a boat belonging to a man from East Carondelet who is being investigated for allegedly operating a watercraft under the influence of alcohol.
