(SALEM, IL) — Two people remain in the Marion County Jail, after Centralia police arrested them in connection with a residential burglary Friday afternoon that was interrupted by the homeowner. Formal charges and bail remain to be set for 32-year-old William Swofford, of DuQuoin, and 26-year-old Billie Melton, of Centralia. The two were arrested Saturday in connection with the burglary to the home in the 1300 block of South Elm Street in Centralia. The home owner and a friend had returned to the home on lunch break Friday. The homeowner thought the home may had been entered, and had his friend wait at the front door while he entered through the back door. The homeowner identified Melton as the woman who ran from the front door as he entered the rear of the home. The homeowner informed police that Melton jumped into a car and sped away. After questioning Melton Saturday, officers learned Swofford had driven her to the Elm Street home and waited outside for her. A pair of headphones, an iPod, and an iPhone were reportedly taken from the home.
