(MT. VERNON, IL) — After two years of waiting, Menards is moving forward with plans to build in the city. Menards has taken the second step in the process to open a store in Mt. Vernon when it applied to the city for a conditional use permit for property on the east side of Wells Bypass between the NAPA Distribution Center and Veterans Memorial Drive. The home improvement chain store first announced it was considering construction of a retail outlet in the city in late 2012, however, the company called off the plans when it suspended all its projects nationally. The start of construction depends on how quickly the process can be completed and any work that may need to be completed by the company on the property.
