(WEST FRANKFORT, IL) — Members of the West Frankfort Police Department were honored by the West Frankfort City Council Tuesday with medals for their hard work and bravery during a shootout at a home on July 28 in the 400 block of N. Madison Street. Police say 42-year-old Ray Adams was in the home shooting at others inside and outside. He also took a woman hostage. Officers Stacy Eaton and Ron Howard were able to help an elderly woman on the home’s porch get down to avoid being hurt. Adams shot at the officers. They were not hurt and were able to get the woman to safety. Police later got inside the home to confront Adams and noticed the woman he was holding hostage was able to leave. When officers found Adams, he had killed himself. He also shot and injured two others during the incident.
