(DIX, IL) — Jefferson County Sheriff’s deputies arrested a man Thursday afternoon; after they responded to a report of a female screaming she was being raped. According to the sheriff’s department, around 11:48 a.m. Thursday, deputies responded to an area of the old abandoned Dix Lumberyard, where they learned that a black male had attacked the female and threatened her with a gun. The female told deputies that the suspect fled the area on foot. Due to the close proximity to Rome Grade School, the school was placed on lockdown. Deputies, detectives, Mt. Vernon police, and Illinois State Police officers quickly arrived on scene and were able to apprehend the subject. The subject reportedly fought with deputies but was ultimately taken into custody. The subject was transported to the Jefferson County Jail, the exact charges are pending interviews. More details are expected as the investigation unfolds.
