EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. (AP) — Southern Illinois University President Randy Dunn says he won’t be proposing any major new programs this year and the school will be focusing on “reshaping” itself. Dunn gave his annual address offering the state of the SIU system at the Edwardsville campus on Tuesday. He said there won’t be new initiatives or goals for the system this year, saying “that’s not where we are right now.” He said the school needs to weather the state budget impasse in Springfield and SIU officials are planning for worst-case scenarios. He pointed to one degree program at the SIU Carbondale campus that has eight students. Dunn says the school is going to have to look at certain programs’ “return on investment.” Dunn did point to some positives, including growing, diverse student enrollment.
