SWANSEA, Ill. (AP) — Family members say a 9-year-old boy stabbed in a southwestern Illinois attack that left his mother dead and her estranged boyfriend charged with murder continues to recover from his injuries. Erica Day tells the Belleville News-Democrat that her nephew Nicolas and his youth football team will be guests of the St. Louis Rams for the NFL team’s season opener Sunday against the Seattle Seahawks. The team held a Wednesday night fundraiser at a Belleville Dairy Queen, with a portion of the proceeds designated for a trust fund in his name. Alvin Harris Jr. of East St. Louis is charged with first-degree murder in the Aug. 29 death of Sharetta Day at her Swansea apartment. Nicolas was stabbed three times in the neck and reportedly witnessed his mother’s attack.
