Exelon Raises Possibility Of Layoffs

(Clinton, IL) — The Exelon Corporation, operator of nuclear plants in Illinois, said today it’s planning cost-cutting moves. That may possibly include layoffs among its 12-thousand Illinois workers. Exelon has been lobbying for special consideration for its nuclear plants which have been facing stiff competition from low-priced natural gas as a way of producing electricity. Today’s announcement did not include a repeat of Exelon’s threat to shut down its nuclear plants unless it gets rate and tax support from the General Assembly.
