(BENTON, IL) — A 29-year-old Centralia man was sentenced Friday to 76 months in federal prison, or 84 months with credit for 8 months already served in the Marion County Jail, on multiple meth-related charges. Jeremy Phelps was sentenced followed a guilty plea in March to all charges against him brought in an indictment returned by a Federal Grand Jury in November 2014. Phelps was sentenced for three counts of Distribution of Methamphetamine and one count of Possession of a Listed Chemical (Pseudoephedrine) Knowing or Having Reason to Know It Would Be Used to Manufacture Methamphetamine. The offenses occurred in Marion County. In addition to the more than 6 year federal prison term, Phelps was ordered to serve 4 years of supervised release, as well as pay a $500 fine and a $500 special assessment. Information leading to the charges against Phelps was obtained in an investigation conducted by the FBI, the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, the Clinton County Sheriff’s Department, assisted by the Illinois State Police Methamphetamine Response Team, the Centralia Police Department, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department and the Mt. Vernon Police Department. The case is being handled by Assistant United States Attorney Kit Morrissey.
