SHILOH, Ill. (AP) — A police department in southwestern Illinois plans to keep new body cameras in the boxes they came in over objections to new comprehensive guidelines for law enforcement. Gov. Bruce Rauner signed legislation Wednesday that outlines how police should use body cameras and establishes updates aimed at bias-free policing and improving police training. The law also calls for independent investigations of police-involved deaths. Shiloh Police Department Chief Jim Stover tells the Belleville News-Democrat some parts of the law are “ridiculous”and burdensome. The new law specifies when body cameras should be worn, when taping should begin and how long recorded videos should be kept.
