Union, Rauner To Keep Talking

(Springfield, IL) — Governor Bruce Rauner says he’ll keep talking with the state’s largest public employee union, but he won’t let an arbitrator settle Illinois’ on-going contract dispute. The governor yesterday announced a two month extension, and vetoed a proposal that would have turned the talks over to binding arbitration. Rauner and AFSCME have been talking for months about a new agreement for 38-thousand state workers. The two sides are far apart on pay, perks, and pension benefits.
