(CENTRALIA, IL) — In an act that, according to State Representative John Cavaletto, was the culmination of a long process, Governor Bruce Rauner today signed over the former Centralia Animal Disease Lab to Kaskaskia College, which has renovated the building for use as its Agriculture Education Building. In December 2013, through an inter-government agreement, the State of Illinois leased the 10 million dollar building to the College at no cost. The documents signed today by Governor Rauner turns over permanent ownership of the building to the College. The 48,000 square foot building provides the College with exactly what it needed, space to expand current programs as well as to offer career training in new fields. The two lawmakers primarily responsible for the transfer, Representative Charlie Meier of Okawville and Representative John Cavaletto of Salem attended the signing in the Governor’s Office in Springfield, along with a number of Kaskaskia College personnel. Representatives Meier and Cavaletto echoed that today’s action made for a great day for the College, as well as for the taxpayers, since the building was put to good use and not left to deteriorate when the decision was made to consolidate the State’s Animal Disease Labs and close the Centralia location.
