(SPRINGFIELD, IL) — Unemployment decreased in all 18 counties in South Central Illinois when compared with one year ago, but continues to slowly rise from the Spring. Workforce conditions have continued to gradually improve during the year. The data is not seasonally adjusted. Over the year, employment gains were reported in Wholesale Trade, Retail Trade, Transportation, and Professional-Business Services. Payrolls in Health Care Services continued to increase. Seasonal payroll advances occurred in Leisure-Hospitality and Other Services. Construction activity, especially road, school, and commercial projects remained at high levels this summer. Numerous employment opportunities in June 2015 were advertised in Health Care and Transportation. Job openings also were reported in Office and Administrative Support, Sales, Management, and Production occupations. Employment opportunities included jobs in Computer Services, Engineering, Food Services, and Installation, Maintenance, and Repair occupations. Workers were also needed for Building and Grounds Maintenance and Construction occupations. The unemployment rate identifies those who are out of work and seeking employment. A person who exhausts benefits, or is ineligible, still will be reflected in the unemployment rate if they actively seek work. Jefferson County posted a 6% for June after posting a 5.7 % in May, but a 7.4% in June 2014. Marion County posted a 6.1% after having 5.7% last month and 7.8% a year ago. Clinton County was at 4%, Hamilton County was at 4.4%, Wayne County had a 6.3% and Washington County was at 3.5%.
