(Springfield, IL) — The Rauner administration says no workers will be fired if a southern Illinois prison work camp is closed. The Department of Corrections report on the proposed closing of the Hardin County Work Camp says there are enough vacancies at the Shawnee and Vienna prisons to provide jobs for the 61 workers now at Hardin. Rauner announced the closing plans last month, a move that triggered a legislative review process and a series of public hearings.
