(Collinsville, IL) — The suspect accused of opening fire at an Illinois State Trooper last week is now behind bars. Police say Gregory Nelson was captured Saturday night in St. Ann, Missouri and is charged with attempted first degree murder and two weapons charges. Authorities say the 52-year-old gunman was pulled over last Tuesday night when he was suspected of driving drunk. As Nelson got out of the car to take a sobriety test, he pulled out a gun and shot at the trooper. The officer was not hurt and fired back at Nelson, who was also unharmed in the incident.
