(MT. VERNON, IL) — The Jefferson County Board met Monday evening. At the meeting, it was determined that the jurisdictional transfer of Wells Bypass to the city of Mt. Vernon is being iced at this time. The discussion turned to the topic of the city not providing water for the constituents that live near the new Mt. Vernon Township High School construction site and this concern would need to be remedied as a part of the jurisdictional transfer. The matter will be discussed again at next month’s Highway Committee meeting. Also, the board discussed setting prevailing wages for Jefferson County. Prevailing wage is the hourly wage, usual benefits and overtime, paid in the largest city in each county, to the majority of workers, laborers and mechanics. Board members were divided on this topic. A motion was passed to set a prevailing wage for Jefferson County to be discussed at next month’s full board meeting. Four nays were outvoted to pass the motion.
