DuQuoin, IL – Illinois State Police District 13 announces enforcement figures from the two day Officer on a Train / UP Cares details. On Tuesday, June 16, 2015, Illinois State Police, Union Pacific Rail Road Police and the Randolph County Sheriff’s Department partnered to bring awareness to rail road safety for both motorists and pedestrians. This detail was conducted in Chester, IL on Water Street. Enforcement actions taken include 4 citations for vehicular crossing violations and 2 warnings for vehicular crossing violations. On Wednesday, June 17, 2015, Illinois State Police, Union Pacific Rail Road Police, Williamson County Sheriff’s Department, and Marion Police Department partnered in a similar enforcement detail. The detail was conducted in Marion on the UP Railroad line paralleling Illinois Route 37 between Illinois Route 13 and Boyton Street. Enforcement actions taken during this detail included 2 pedestrian crossing citations, a pedestrian crossing warning, a pedestrian trespassing warning, 3 vehicular crossing citations, a vehicular crossing warning, an insurance citation and a seatbelt warning. These law enforcement partnerships were created in an effort to educate the public about grade crossing and pedestrian safety in relationship to the railroads.
