(SESSER, IL) — The city of Sesser has been awarded two housing rehabilitation grants from the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity’s Community Development Assistance Program – Competitive Housing Rehabilitation. City officials say the grants are for a total of $400,000 and will be used to provide repairs to 10 homes within a specific target area in Sesser. That area will be the east and west sides of South Walnut Street and the west side of South Cockrum Street beginning at the 400 block and south to the 700 block. Crosswalk Community Action Agency will administer the grant. It will be notifying all residents in the target area of the grant award. Homeowners will be encouraged to complete applications which will be prioritized with elderly, handicapped and very low-income residents having top priority. Crosswalk staff will be available at various times at City Hall to help residents with their applications.
