(CENTRALIA, IL) — A long-time eyesore on the Centralia landscape has finally fallen to demolition crews, with the last portion of the dilapidated building being brought down yesterday. The City of Centralia announced in March that it was prepared to demolish the Holiday Motel on North Poplar. The City Council approved a resolution in which the city would pay the $11,000 in back taxes owed on the property and then using City crews to demolish the motel. The City entered into an agreement with the property owner in that the city will pay the back taxes and the owner will then pay back the City, with the demolition allowing the property to be marketed for other purposes.
