(East St. Louis, IL) — A consumer advocacy group is calling for a federal investigation of an April power auction that’s left many downstate consumers facing bills that are ten-percent higher at a time when power prices are generally low. The Citizens Utility Board says the auction by grid manager Midcontinent Independent System Operator, or MISO, doesn’t make sense since Illinois is a net exporter of power and since comparable prices in other states on the same grid are lower. CUB joins Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan and advocacy group Public Citizen in demanding a federal probe.
