(McLeansboro, IL) — Work on Hamilton County’s new 911 system could be affected if a 911 service consolidation bill is signed by Governor Rauner. Senate Bill 96 was sponsored by Democratic State Representatives John Bradley of Marion and Brandon Phelps of Harrisburg. The bill would force counties that don’t have 911 services right now to consolidate with a county that does. If the bill is signed into law, Hamilton County could be merged with Saline County or White County. Officials in Hamilton County say paperwork is being put together right now to send to the state to have the county exempt from the law and continue with its 911 plans. If that doesn’t happen, then officials believe they will have to go with a county that has next generation 911 service.
