(BENTON, IL) — The Benton City Council is set to discuss and possibly give approval on hiring a new fire chief when it meets tonight at 7 at City Hall. The city has been without a permanent fire chief since Sean Faires resigned earlier this year to be with his family in Peoria. The city council then appointed D.T. Richardson to fill the position on an interim basis until the new city council could find a new chief. Richardson recently resigned as interim fire chief and was made a part-time Benton police officer. Benton firefighter Jeff Coleman is now serving as acting fire chief.
