Shimkus EPA Reform Bill Advances

(Washington, DC) — The federal EPA would have to test the chemicals in existing consumer goods under a bill sponsored by Collinsville Republican John Shimkus that cleared a U.S. House committee today. The reform of the Toxic Substance Control Act has been in the works for years and would require the EPA to test products already on the market as well as new chemical combinations. The bill gathered bipartisan support and passed the Energy and Commerce Committee with no dissenting votes. A similar bill is moving through the Senate.
