(Granite City, IL) — The plan to idle operations at the U.S. Steel Plant in Granite City will undergo some changes. It was announced in March that more than two-thousand employees would be laid off with the closure. But U.S. Representative Mike Bost says the steel plant will remain open. A spokesman for the Congressman says 80 people will be laid off and one blast-furnace will be kept in operation. He says the decision to keep the plant operating was made by U.S. Steel.
