Gambling Expansion Bill Bubbles Up

(Springfield, IL) — Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s Chicago casino plan is getting a hearing Thursday in the legislature, but its odds are long as the budget continues to dominate lawmakers’ attention. Emanuel is counting on revenue from a casino, even a temporary one initially, to provide some relief from the city’s pension obligation. The Chicago casino is part of a gambling expansion bill that also includes three other new casinos — one each in the south suburbs, Rockford and Lake County.
