(SALEM , IL) — A 23-year-old Salem woman accused of murder in the March death of her 3-month-old baby girl is due in Marion County Court this morning for a pre-trial hearing. Christina Thomason has pleaded not guilty to the two First Degree Murder charges against her, charging that she covered her infant daughter Aribella Thomason with blankets, intentionally suffocating the child. During Thomason’s last court appearance, her court appointed attorney Matt Chancey revealed he had discovered a life insurance policy for the baby in Thomason’s name. Chancey said he did not wish to withdraw from the case, even though his client could possibly use the estimated $18,000 in insurance money to hire a private attorney. Chief Judge Michael McHaney said Thomason could possibly be asked to reimburse the court for attorney’s fees following the conclusion of the case. McHaney has scheduled a tentative jury trial date of June 15 and a final pre-trial date of June 4. Thomason remains in the Marion County Jail, with bail set at $1 million.
