(Godfrey, IL) — The Madison County Sheriff’s Office says a grandmother in Godfrey is facing animal cruelty charges after admitting to killing a cat and four kittens because her grandchildren would not clean their rooms. Police say a deputy was called to a home in the five-thousand block of West Victor Drive just after 7 Monday night for a report of animal cruelty. When the deputy arrived Josephine Bell reportedly said she killed the cat and four kittens with a hammer. Bell was arrested and charged with a felony count of aggravated cruelty to animals. She remains in custody at Madison County Jail on 15-thousand-dollar bond.
