(CARBONDALE, IL) — Officials at SIU say a mock disaster drill designed to test the skills of students in an advanced first aid class there will be going on today starting at 9:30 at the Fire Personnel Training Station on Bigler Road. The scenario will involve a building collapse caused by a gas explosion. Emergency personnel from Carbondale and Jackson County will be involved along with about 20 students. Students will be demonstrating what they have learned in the class and must pass the test in order to become certified emergency medical responders. So if you see a lot of emergency personnel in the area of Bigler Road in Carbondale today, don’t worry, it’s only a drill. It should be over by 11:30.
