(SALEM, IL) — A high-speed chase through Marion County early Saturday landed a 24-year-old Centralia man in jail on multiple charges. Justin Ely reportedly fled when a Marion County Sheriff’s deputy attempted to stop him near the Salem Wal-Mart for having a cracked windshield. Instead, Ely reportedly fled, taking deputies on a high-speed chase from Salem, through Odin and to Sandoval, with speeds reaching 80 miles per hour. The deputy was able to keep Ely from speeding through Sandoval, getting his squad car next to Ely at the U.S. 50/51 intersection, forcing him to instead turn north onto U.S. 51. It was about 500 feet north of that intersection that Ely pulled over and was taken into custody.
