Synthetic Marijuana Cropping Up

(Chicago, IL) — Illinois officials are warning people about deadly forms of synthetic drugs that are showing up across the country. Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan and the Illinois Poison Control Center say there have been increased hospital visits and deaths linked to a drug known on the street as “spice” or “K2.” Those are marijuana substitutes that mimic the effects of the active ingredient in pot, THC. Madigan says there’s no way to determine what chemicals have been used in making these drugs.
