EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. (AP) — A documentary film on heroin abuse in Madison County debuts Sunday with a free screening at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. The Heroin Project: A Documentary follows the work of a county heroin task force as well as anti-drug efforts at Edwardsville High School. It was directed by mass communications professor Cory Byers and SIU-Edwardsville graduate Ashley Seering. The film is scheduled to debut at 2 p.m. Sunday at the university’s Abbott Auditorium in the basement of Lovejoy Library. The filmmakers will participate in a conversation with the audience afterward. A second free screening is scheduled for 7 p.m. Wednesday at Southwestern Illinois College in Belleville. Twenty-three people died from heroin overdoses in Madison County in 2013, a more than three-fold increase compared to four years earlier.
