Democrats List Budget Objections

(Springfield, IL) — The battle lines over Governor Rauner’s austerity budget are getting a little clearer as Democratic leaders outline some of their specific objections to the Rauner plan that’s heavy on reductions and light on new revenue. A memo circulated by Democrats today says Rauner’s plans would violate the state Constitution and would also require changes in state law and federal policies to close the six-billion-dollar revenue gap. Rauner’s plan includes one-and-a-half-billion-dollars in Medicaid cuts and a pension reform plan he says would save more than two-billion-dollars. Democrats say it’s impossible to close the gap without new revenue.
