(Roxana, IL) — Cleanup is underway after a pipeline reportedly leaked nearly 30-thousand gallons of diesel fuel into a Metro East waterway. Officials with Phillips 66 say the leak was discovered Friday morning from a pipeline that runs between the company’s terminal in Hartford, Illinois and the terminal’s barge dock on the Mississippi River. The leak was able to be contained and stopped after state and federal EPA officials, as well as the U.S. Coast Guard, responded. Phillips 66 officials say the fuel was released into the Cahokia Canal that empties into the Mississippi, and that fuel did reach the river.
