(GRAYVILLE, IL) — Authorities continue to investigate an officer-involved shooting Sunday evening in Grayville that left a man seriously injured. A Grayville Police officer making a routine traffic stop shot the suspect through the front windshield of his vehicle. The suspect has been identified as 48-year-old John R. Eagleson, of Grayville. According to White County Sheriff Doug Maier, the Grayville officer made a routine traffic stop which ended in the parking of the Dollar General Store on Ill. Rt. 1 at the south edge of Grayville. Maier says the officer fired through the front windshield of the suspect’s car, striking the man in the head. The circumstances that preceded the shooting remain under investigation, Sheriff Maier said. The name of the police officer is being withheld at this time, Sheriff Maier said. The incident was reported shortly before 4:45 Sunday night. The suspect was airlifted from the scene to Deaconess Hospital in Evansville for treatment of a gunshot wound to his head. Maier and Illinois State Police Crime Scene Services are investigating the shooting.
