COLLINSVILLE, Ill. (AP) — Weekend horse races are expected to resume at Fairmount Park after the southern Illinois track canceled its race card Tuesday because of a labor dispute. Fairmount Park president Brian Zander tells the St. Louis Post-Dispatch that union members set up informational pickets at the Collinsville track’s two main entrances objecting to the use of a non-union company for hail damage repairs to the main grandstand roof. Races were canceled when members of several unions decided to not cross the picket line. Track officials and union leaders have since reached a compromise that allows the pickets between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m., when the roofers work overnight shifts so they won’t spook horses that train during the day.
