(MT. VERNON) –The city of Mt. Vernon prepared for its April 7th election with a candidates forum. The city council candidates Steven Casper, Terri Clark, Jeff May, and Donte Moore spoke on topics like the proposal of selling the city’s water and sewer lines, as well as, the current housing problem and people leaving the town. After the forum, two representatives, one from Jefferson County Pennies for Public Safety and the other a representative from the Concerned Citizens of Jefferson County, discussed the problems facing the county budget and where to cut back on expenses. The CCJC did not want sheriff deputies to be laid off, but wanted cuts to be made in the county’s budget. The vote on the city council seats and the public safety tax will be on the ballot on April 7th.
