(WAYNE COUNTY, IL) — A police pursuit Monday morning in Wayne County has resulted in the arrest of a 40-year-old Mt. Vernon man on multiple drug charges. Sheriff’s deputies arrested Robbie E. Hayes early Monday morning, after a Wayne County Sheriff’s deputy attempted to stop him on County Highway 9 for having a license plate light out. Deputy reports say Hayes refused to stop and began throwing objects out the truck window. A second deputy joined in the pursuit and was able to cut off Hayes’ truck, forcing him to stop. A search of the area where Hayes reportedly was throwing items from his truck revealed a large quantity of pseudoephedrine tablets and other items commonly used in the manufacture of methamphetamine. Hayes was taken to the Wayne County Jail where he was charged with DUI drugs, possession of meth precursors, obstruction of justice, attempting to flee or elude and possession of less than 2.5 grams of cannabis.
