(Belleville, IL) — The ride-sharing service UberX goes on line today in the Metro East. The UberX mobile phone app can connect passengers and drivers in cities like Alton, Edwardsville and Belleville. The service is not yet available across the river in Missouri, but rides originating in Illinois can cross the state border. The service is operating under a new Illinois law that requires insurance, background checks and a zero-tolerance policy on drugs and alcohol for ride-sharing drivers.
