(Sparta, IL) — A mom and her baby are suffering from injuries after their car was hit by a train in Sparta. The crash happened Thursday morning on Chester Street at West 1st Street. Police say the PT Cruiser was pushed for about 200 feet after it was struck by a Canadian National train, which was hauling coal. The woman and her two-year-old daughter were taken to Sparta Hospital with non life-threatening injuries. The accident is under investigation.
