(Brooklyn, IL) — A Metro East detective is accused of swiping an assault rifle from evidence. St. Clair County’s state attorney says Officer Christopher Heatherly took an illegal AR-15 that was part of an upcoming case and kept it in the trunk of his car. The state attorney says the officer reportedly bought a case to store the gun and can be seen posing with it in a photo on the police department’s calendar. When the gun was taken into evidence, officers also seized ammunition and drugs, both of which were also missing.
