(BENTON, IL) — The Benton Community Consolidated School District 47 will be without 20 employees when the school year starts in August. Superintendent Dr. Jay Goble says due to cuts in general state aid for the fourth year in a row, 10 teachers and 10 paraprofessionals will lose their jobs. Cuts were also made to administration and support staff. The district has lost about $2 million due to the proration of general state aid over the past four years and could not avoid layoffs any longer. The district will be putting together various staffing plans based on enrollment and programming needs. Some of those who lost their jobs may get a chance to come back later this year depending on needs and future funding forecasts.
