Brady Says University Privatization Bill Not Ready

(Springfield, IL) — State Senator Bill Brady says his plan to turn the state’s nine public universities into private, not-for-profit schools still needs some massaging, even though it was scheduled for a hearing today in a Senate committee. Brady says he’ll continue to work on the plan to convert the schools to private institutions and to use the state money they now get to make tuition grants to eligible students. He says the idea would free the schools from state regulations and would make students who get grants more accountable.
