Rauner Orders ‘Fair Share’ Fees Diverted

(Springfield, IL) — Not waiting for the court’s approval, Governor Bruce Rauner is telling state agencies to stop sending fees from non-union members to the unions. Rauner has ordered an end to the practice of collecting “fair share” fees from workers who don’t belong to the unions that negotiate the wages and working conditions for those jobs. He’s asking a federal court to overturn the requirement and is being opposed by several state unions. In the meantime, the fees are still being collected, but now Rauner has ordered the collected fees to be put into escrow accounts instead of sent to the unions.
