(Belleville, IL) — Two sisters of an 85-year-old woman found dead in a Belleville nursing home say they had seen signs of abuse prior to her death. The St. Clair County coroner opened an investigation after Juanita Simmons was found dead last week at the bottom of a staircase, strapped to her wheelchair at the Midwest Rehabilitation and Respiratory Center. Simmons’ sisters say they visited every week and had seen bruises on her face, a black eye and stitches on her mouth.
