Bill Would Require Sex Offenders To Register Near Job

(Springfield, IL) — A bill under consideration in Springfield would require convicted sex offenders to register with police where they work, in addition to where they live. Supporters say the change would close a loophole in the law that allows sex offenders to work near schools and parks, even if they can’t live near those facilities. Opponents say the measure would only further punish people who have already served their sentences and are trying to support themselves and their families. Current law requires sex offenders to tell police in the jurisdiction where they live whether they have a job and where that is.
