(East St. Louis, IL) — Knocked off the ballot by the Illinois Supreme Court, East St. Louis Mayor Alvin Parks Junior is vowing to seek reelection to a third term with a write-in campaign. The court Monday ruled in favor of a suit brought by challenger Emeka Jackson-Hicks claiming that Parks’ nominating petitions lacked the one-hundred-36 valid signatures needed. Parks said Tuesday, “I am planning on mounting a ferocious write-in-campaign,” explaining that his supporters deserve to have their voices heard. Early voting had already begun for the April 7th election, but the Supreme Court ruled that any ballots for Parks already cast be ignored.
