MARION, Ill. (AP) — A southern Illinois man has pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter in the suffocation death of his 3-month-old son. Williamson County State’s Attorney Brandon Zanotti says 23-year-old Brandon Vaughn of Johnston City entered the guilty plea Monday. He faces up to 14 years in prison for the manslaughter charge. The Southern Illinoisan reports Vaughn initially was charged with murdering his son, Brayson, in October 2013. He was accused of throwing a comforter over the baby and going outside to smoke. Authorities said Brayson was found unresponsive at his home and was declared dead at a hospital. Zanotti says Vaughn was ordered to have no visitation with another one of his children while incarcerated. He’s scheduled to be sentenced on May 8.
