The Mt Vernon City Council held a meeting Monday night and approved a resolution urging the Governor and the General Assembly to protect full funding of Local Government Distributive Fund Revenues. Due to the current state budget problems, there is talk of cutting the amount of income tax revenue local governments receive by 50%. Two recreational grants have already been suspended in Mt Vernon: the grant for improvements to Lincoln Park and the armory have been suspended due to budget concerns.
