EFFINGHAM – Mt. Vernon resident Mark Terry received two days of intensive training and preparation for his anticipated service as Mt. Vernon West Rotary Club President here last weekend. Terry will assume the presidency of his local club July 1 and attended the President Elect Training Seminar in preparation for that service, Rotary District 6510 Governor Elect Tom Guebert explained. Terry was one of some 35 Southern Illinois presidents elect to attend the seminar, Guebert noted. Rotary conducts the president elect training so that local presidents can better carry out their tasks in fulfilling Rotary’s motto of “Service Above Self,” Guebert said. “The presidents are the sparkplugs of the 34,000 Rotary Clubs worldwide and
the clubs are the foundation of our global organization,” Guebert commented. “The
better trained the presidents are, the better the clubs perform, and the better we carry
out our mission, both locally and globally.”Terry said one of his principal goals for the Mt. Vernon West club next year would be to “increase our membership so that we can serve our community and the world better.” The Mt. Vernon West Rotary Club meets weekly at 7 a.m. on Monday at the Fairfield Inn in Mt. Vernon. For further information concerning its activities, contact Terry at coach206@charter.net.
